The colours that we surround ourselves with can have a serious effect on our health and wellbeing; in both mind and body.
Colours can even be used to heal us. Different colours can relax, stimulate or invigorate the body and mind. Here’s our guide to healing colours.
Orange
The colour orange has a specific energising quality that can be harnessed to combat depression. As well as promoting confidence and wellbeing, orange also helps to stimulate our creativity and passion. So if you’re feeling nervous, tired or down, try wearing an orange item of clothing, or hold an orange accessory, such as a cushion, before an important day or event. If you’re having problems with your digestive or reproductive systems, orange can also be beneficial.
Red
Red can strengthen and stimulate our bodies. The colour red has been known to raise blood pressure and keep us alert. So if you’re feeling tired or sluggish, surround yourself with the colour red for some instant vitality. Perhaps wear a red jumper or a red scarf?
Yellow
Oh mellow yellow – you are so often misunderstood. Whilst the colour yellow has a calming effect on the body, specifically the digestive system and the general abdominal area, it is also energising and uplifting. If you need a boost of positivity or inner power, yellow is your colour. Why not invest in some yellow crystals to keep around the house in times of need?
Green
Green is the colour that is most associated with nature and our planet earth and therefore can be used to bring peace, balance and harmony to your life. The colour green is a great relaxer and can be incredibly good for the heart. Ensure you’ve got lots of plants in your house or get stuck into nature if you’re feeling out of balance or particularly stressed. A walk in the woods or a spot of gardening will do the trick.
Magenta
If you’re ever feeling detached from life or your spirits are down, use magenta. The colour magenta is very uplifting, soothing and can enable us to recharge. If you’re facing obstacles at home or work, soak in the tub with some magenta coloured crystals around you. You can even get magenta coloured bubble bath to help lift your mood. Having magenta bath towels or bath mats can also help. Be careful if you’re prone to depression or have a particularly introverted personality as too much magenta can be a little too soothing at times.
Purple
Purple is a very spiritual colour and so if you’re looking for spiritual awareness or balance, this is the colour for you. If you’re experiencing a transformation or a transitional time in your life, purple can help the process go smoothly. Purple is also great for healing mental imbalances or excessive nervousness. A purple lava lamp or blanket can help bring you clarity and calmness.
Blue
The colour blue has been known to calm the body’s autonomic nervous system and in turn lower blood pressure. For complete calmness, clarity and coolness, use the colour blue in your life. Many people choose blue as the colour for their bedroom decor because of its calming nature and the sense of security it brings. Staring at the sky or being near the ocean can also have wonderful effects on the body.
Turquoise
The colour turquoise is a symbol of truth and communication and can be used to help calm quarrels or misunderstandings. It can also help you gain some inner truth about yourself if you’re feeling particularly conflicted. Wear turquoise jewellery to stay open, invigorated and calm – especially during times of turmoil.
You should never underestimate the power of colour when it comes to meditation & healing. It can have a massive effect on both your mind and body.
